Abstract

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is crucial for preventing cervical cancer, yet uptake rates remain low in many regions of Indonesia. Although sociodemographic factors such as age, marital status, income, and exposure to health campaigns are known to influence vaccination decisions, few studies have examined how these factors collectively affect HPV vaccine participation, highlighting a gap addressed in this study. This study aimed to assess the relationship between health campaign participation, knowledge, attitude, intention, and HPV vaccination uptake. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 470 women in Tegal Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured online questionnaires on sociodemographic characteristics and vaccination behaviour. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were performed to examine associations. Health campaign participation was strongly associated with vaccination uptake (adjusted OR = 7.029, p < 0.001), while knowledge showed no significant effect. Positive attitudes toward HPV vaccination increased the likelihood of uptake (adjusted OR = 1.987, p = 0.025), and vaccination intention emerged as the strongest predictor (adjusted OR = 10.198, p = 0.002). These findings indicate that engagement in health campaigns, positive attitudes, and clear intention are key determinants of HPV vaccination participation. Health campaigns play a critical role in promoting vaccination, while shaping attitudes and strengthening intention further enhance uptake. These findings highlight that health campaigns should target adolescents’ attitudes and intentions to effectively increase HPV vaccination rates.
