Abstract

The availability of early screening and intervention modules for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for the utilization of clinical psychologists in specific cultural contexts such as Malaysia may help to promote awareness. This has the potential to promote early help-seeking behaviour which may prevent the progression of OCD in developing countries. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the validity and reliability of an intervention module which can promote mental health literacy on OCD among Malaysian adults and reduce the OCD symptoms of adults with mild or moderate OCD in Malaysia. The research methodology comprised two phases. These are (i) intervention module design and development and (ii) content validation through experts’ review on the Malay Version OCD Intervention Module. The development of the brief intervention module for OCD adopted Sidek’s Module Development Model, which is a Malaysian-based framework for module development. Results show that this Malay Version OCD Intervention Module has high content validity (overall content validity = 88.6%) and this result was built upon the unanimous agreement of all experts involved as it has high inter-rater reliability (? = 0.97, N=5).. The content validity and inter-rater reliability findings showed that the Malay Version OCD Intervention Module has good validity properties. Therefore, it has the potential to be administered by clinical psychologists to clients with mild or moderate OCD symptoms, especially in increasing knowledge of OCD and management of OCD symptoms and to be further developed into an online delivery in the future for the utilization clinical psychologists in mental health services.
