Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate potential associations between the job demands and complexity experienced by nurses and their organizational citizenship behaviour amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data was obtained from 641 nurses at a Malaysian public hospital and examined using structural equation modelling. The findings revealed a substantial impact of job complexity on the organizational citizenship behaviour of nurses. When the job complexity of nurses is high, they tend to be proactive and encourage them to work beyond their job scope. Management should devote significant resources to redesigning complicated jobs to align them with people' knowledge, skills, and capacities. This study differs in that it fills a research gap on the relationships between job demands, complexity, and organisational citizenship behaviour in the healthcare sector worldwide, particularly in Eastern cultures. It contributes novelty by filling theoretical and empirical gaps in human resource management and psychology literature.
