THE CONTENT AND FACE VALIDITY EVALUATION OF AN INFECTION CONTROL KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE QUESTIONNAIRE AMONG DENTAL ASSISTANTS

Abstract

A valid and reliable questionnaire to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) on infection control in dental clinics for dental assistants is needed to assess the baseline KAP and evaluate the effectiveness of cross-infection control programs. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the content and face validity of the newly developed infection control KAP questionnaire for dental assistants. This cross-sectional study has been conducted in two stages of the validation process. The first stage was content validity assessment, which involved ten experts. The content validity index (CVI) and content validity ratio (CVR) were analysed to assess the relevance, clarity, simplicity, and necessity of the items in the questionnaire. Ten dental assistants participated in the face validity assessment in the second stage. The face validity index (FVI) was used to assess the comprehensiveness and clarity of each item. The new questionnaire on infection control KAP for dental assistants demonstrated high average scales of CVI (S-CVI/Ave), CVR (S-CVR/Ave), and FVI (S-FVI/Ave) for the new questionnaire on infection control KAP for dental assistants with 0.98, 0.93, and 0.99, respectively. After removing a few items with low I-CVR, the S-CVR/Ave score was improved to 0.96. Some items were revised and modified based on received feedback but remained in the construct. In conclusion, the high average scores for CVI, CVR, and FVI indicate strong agreement among the expert evaluators and dental assistants regarding the relevance, necessity, and clarity of the infection control KAP questionnaire items for dental assistants.
